shiatsu
‘Shi’ meaning finger ‘Atsu’ meaning pressure, is an ancient Japanese holistic therapy using pressure applied at specific points around the body with the fingers and thumbs, to clear and balance the vital life force known as Qi working on physiological and psychological levels.
Shiatsu began when Japanese monks studying Buddhism in China in the 10th Century learned the healing methods used by the Chinese in their traditional Chinese medicine. The methods of diagnosis and treating health problems with massage type movements were taken back to Japan and further developed into the art we now know as Shiatsu.
