Your First Salon Visit...
Whether you visit a large luxury day Spa or a small local Salon, you can expect the highest standards when you visit a BABTAC Member; so ‘Are you BABTAC?’ is a good way to start your visit. It’s an easy question to ask on the phone when you first call!
You should be greeted with courtesy and welcomed to the Salon, and any staff who will be treating you should introduce themselves. At this stage, look for the BABTAC badge on their tunic; it’s the sign that they’re trained, qualified and insured, so if you can’t see it – ask about your Therapists’ qualifications and insurance!
Our Members will genuinely welcome this enquiry.
The environment should be clean and well maintained, and the atmosphere one of calm efficiency. Nobody likes waiting and a prompt service is to be expected, but if a delay is unavoidable you should be informed of how long you may have to wait, offered a seat and possibly refreshment.
All staff should be immaculately groomed and you should expect a professional manner with an attentive and pleasant attitude. Larger Salons may have a receptionist who will inform you generally about the services and products the Salon may offer and the related prices.
A private consultation enables the Therapist to discuss treatment choices and to ensure that any treatment or product is suitable – and, importantly, safe for you as an individual. During a consultation the Therapist should be able to clearly outline your treatment needs, the costs and time required. A skin analysis or body analysis may be undertaken, and some treatments like eyelash tinting require skin patch testing to ensure a non allergic response.
An initial consultation can take up to 30 minutes depending on the type of treatment required, during which the Therapist will ask detailed questions about your general health, skin care and life style. Don’t feel that this consultation is in any way a waste of your time; it really is necessary to ensure the treatment is not only right for you, but safe.
If anyone attempts to treat you without a consultation… take a closer look at their credentials.
