Make the most of your Money with OSU

Allowing you to process on the spot payments, your business transactions are about to get a whole lot easier thanks to the brand new payment system and BABTAC Business Partner, OSU

Since the pandemic, Britain has become something of a cashless society. You can pay for parking via an app, pre-order and pay for your latte before you even enter the coffee shop and since apple pay has no limit, you can book a holiday from your phone in seconds. Who needs loose change and ATM’s when you’ve got apps and an Internet connection? It’s changing the way small businesses process payments too. Case in point, the new app, Osu that has been designed specifically for the UK’s 4.5 million solo self-employed, sole traders and freelancers to make their – and their clients – lives easier.

“As former self-employed individuals ourselves at different stages in our careers, we know first-hand the day-to-day challenges of running your own business,” says CEO and Co-founder Noam Nevo. “Whether it's using complex accounting software that was originally built for SMBs (small and mid-size businesses), paying high transaction fees to accept card payments, or dealing with the inevitable hassle and chasing of bank transfers, Osu solves all of this, and more, in a single mobile app.”

From what it is to how it works and why it’s going to revolutionise the way you make your money, we’ve asked Noam to give us the nitty gritty on the app so you can go forth and prosper with confidence.

What does Osu actually mean?

Osu means "Push" in Japanese. Very literally it relates to the direct account-to-account payment method we provide, which is sometimes referred to as a 'push payment' solution. For us it's also about pushing the boundaries of what's possible when it comes to serving the self-employed, sole traders and freelancers. We're building an app that aims to provide them with everything they need in order to thrive - starting with payments, but rapidly extending to a full suite of business management features so that it uniquely meets their needs and powers their success.
What makes it different from other payment systems?

It stands out from other payment solutions, specifically for the self-employed, in a number of ways: 1. There's zero transaction fees

2. When clients pay, you receive your money instantly

3. You don't need a separate device like a plastic card reader - you can do everything from the app, and clients don't need the app in order to pay

4. There's no long, drawn out onboarding process - you can sign up in two minutes and immediately start accepting payments

5. You get far more than payments - the app also allows users to generate and issue invoices, manage their clients via a CRM, and automate payment reminders, and more!

Can anyone use it, such as a salon for example, or is it best for self-employed/mobile therapists?

If you're providing services to consumers, whether it's your full-time profession, or something you're doing for a supplementary income, Osu is for you. Of course, if you're doing home visits, then Osu has the huge added benefit that it allows you to take payments instantly, on the spot, without needing to have a plastic card reader.

Talk us through the basics of how it works, the different plans available and how people would choose which is best for them?

It’s really simple. To send a payment request you enter your client's details, enter the amount they owe you, and then click send. Automatically, in the background, a professional invoice is also created. Your client receives an email and/or text message (it's up to you) containing a link. They click the link, pick their bank, and authorise the payment with Face or Touch ID. The money is then sent instantly from their bank account to yours.

For anyone taking up to £1,000 per month in payments, Osu is free! For people that want to take more, there are two paid monthly plans. For £9.99 per month you can take up to £6,500 per month in payments, and for £19.99 per month you can take up to £20,000 per month in payments. For comparison, taking these volumes via cards would mean paying hundreds of pounds per month in fees, making Osu's low, fixed plans superb value.

Finally, are there any other functions you’re particularly proud of?

We're really proud of two features. Firstly, our automated invoicing which saves our users hours of invoicing admin. When you create and send a payment request using the app, our system pulls the information and creates a professional invoice for you - sending a copy to both your client and you. These invoices can also be customised with your business details and logo, giving them an absolutely professional look.  Secondly, our payment reminder tool. In short, if a client doesn't pay right away, the Osu system flags this and sends a reminder for you. You can control the frequency and timing of these reminders and even customise the text that accompanies them. Instead of spending time writing these messages and keeping track of it all, we take care of it for you.
