Alkaline skin wash

There are a variety of products and treatments available designed to remove the dead skin cells (sometimes referred to as desquamation) that build up on the surface of the skin. Some products are slightly abrasive whereas others have ingredients that digest the dead skin cells gently. Most are applied with the finger tips or a sponge. In a professional facial a variety of products may be used depending on the skin type.
Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) assist micro-exfoliation. These skin peeling products assist in the removal of dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. By using a product that contains AHAs, the skin will benefit from a more concentrated effect than that of a normal skin peel or scrub.

Alpha Hydroxy Acids will speed up new cell growth of the skin and help minimise fine lines. Some AHAs are derived form a natural source – citric and lactic, whilst others are chemically produced.

They can be found in many skin products. As overuse of AHAs can lead to some sensitisation, the manufacturer’’s instructions must always be followed.

When would I know that my skin needs a skin peeling product?

Your skin will feel rough to touch especially over the nose. It may appear dull and makeup applied may appear patchy.

How often should one use these products?

This will depend upon your skin type and your cleansing routine.

How will I know which products are which?

All products are clearly labelled with instructions of how to use them. Should you be in any doubt it is advisable to speak to a qualified Beauty Therapist.
