Depilatory creams

These products are designed to dissolve the hair just below the skin level, thus removing all visible hair from the treated area. There are different products for specific areas of the body that consider the range of skin sensitivity and strength hair.

All products contain an active chemical, which can irritate the skin; therefore it is important to apply a test patch the first time it used. This treatment is not offered in a salon, as it is so readily available in retail outlets.

Should you be thinking of any type of hair removal treatment or an advanced facial at a salon, it is not advisable to use a depilatory cream beforehand. Bleaching may also sensitise the skin, and may affect the skin reaction to waxing or epilation.

How does a chemical depilatory work?

This solution dissolves the hair just below the surface of the skin. Due to the action of the solution, the hair will feel soft to touch as it grows.

I have read that it is not advisable to bleach any hair between waxing or epilation treatments, can you tell me why?

Bleaching will make the hair brittle. Repeated bleaching between these treatments may result in hair breaking when waxed or gripped with tweezers. Bleaching can also sensitise the skin causing a reaction after waxing. When making an appointment it is advisable to speak to the Therapist asking her advice.
